LIVERPOOL AND EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUBS
Liverpool is lucky to have 2 great football teams. Liverpool FC have just completed a major expansion to Anfield Stadium and Everton FC are planning to build a new stadium close to the River Mersey. Even if you don’t like football, the museum, trophy room and stadium tours are a “must see” and a great photo opportunity. It is the perfect place to meet people from all over the world or buy souvenirs for friends or family at very reasonable prices.
METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL
This is Britain’s largest Catholic Cathedral. A great landmark on the Liverpool skyline. On Sunday morning they have mass in Latin with the choir. I couldn’t understand a word but the atmosphere was beautiful. After mass I visited the Lutyen’s Crypt. It has the most beautiful brickwork and vaulted ceilings. The artwork is very contemporary.

ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL
Wow! What a huge space, without doubt one of the great buildings of the 20th Century. I was quite shocked to find a restaurant in a cathedral, but it became a great place to relax and reflect on life in an incredible building. We took two lifts and 108 steps to the top of the Vestey Tower. It is the best view of Liverpool , Wirral, Wales and The River Mersey .
Many of the public buildings in England are working spaces used for a variety of community based activities, so I was lucky to enjoy an art exhibition and craft fair during my stay

PHILHARMONIC PUB
I lived in London and “ The Phil ” reminds me of some of the pubs there only better. It is the most old fashioned ornate and unique pub I have ever visited . It is in the style of an old fashioned gentleman’s club. It is very popular with theatre performers, musicians, artists, students, tourists and scousers.

CHINESE ARCH
Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe. You may notice that there are many Chinese students in Liverpool, this is because Liverpool is twinned with Shanghai. The arch boasts 200 hand carved dragons of which 188 are ordinary and 12 are pregnant, the meaning of which is to symbolize good fortune between Liverpool and Shanghai. When the first Chinese migrants came to Liverpool they settled in what we now call Chinatown.

I was in Liverpool 10 years ago, the difference is amazing. The 19th century station frontage links the station to St George’s Hall and the Cultural Quarter. You can now be in London in 2 hours 10 minutes.
Use Lime Street Station to go to other cities www.networkrail.co.uk
Central, James Street and Moorfields Stations in the city centre are for the local train network www.merseyrail .org

ST GEORGE’S HALL
The stone pillars remind me of something that should be in Rome. I visited during a craft fair and it was so grand I couldn’t believe it. The organ and the tiled floor are not to be missed. Sometimes the whole building is open and you can see the old Law courts and the concert rooms
Maximilliano, Rome Italy
WALKER ART GALLERY
The exhibitions frequently change, as does the main collection. I love the way many local philanthropists have donated money or works of art to the city. Use the Walker Art Gallery Guide room to find out more about the gallery and its collections. Great café in the atrium

CENTRAL LIBRARY
Central library is a beautifully re-modelled building combing a very modern atrium with a fantastic helical staircase. I was amazed how noisy this area was, not like libraries in my country. I then found the Hornby reference room and Picton reading room which are an original part of the building. You could hear a pin drop. A great place to study and research. The superb staff helped me many times during my stay

I didn’t know what to expect from a World Museum. When I visited in 2015 The Maya exhibition was incredible, as was the ancient Egypt collection.
It reminded me of “ The British Museum”. There is a lot crammed into this space. Don’t miss the planetarium – you do need a ticket. The top floor café has a great view of St John’s Gardens. I returned many times while in Liverpool.

THE THREE GRACES AND THE WATERFONT
The Waterfront or Pier Head is my favourite place to hang out, especially on the rooftop terrace of the Mersey ferry booking office, with my favourite coffee looking at The Three Graces and overlooking the River Mersey.
Left to right we have
The Royal Liver Building with the famous Liver Birds on top of the clock towers
The Cunard Building, the former head office of the Cunard Shipping Line
The Port of Liverpool Building
Plus Titanic, Cunard, Alfred Lewis Jones, Merchant Navy Memorials, and the Captain Johnny Walker statue

LIVERPOOL WORLD MUSEUM
A fantastic new contemporary designed building with an amazing floating staircase
I love to find out how local people – scousers – used to live. I couldn’t believe the model of the docks and think about how busy as a port Liverpool used to be.
You can sit in an original Overhead Railway carriage. I think people were much smaller in 1893.
There are many interactive displays that are very stimulating and fun. It was so easy to talk with local people about their history during my visit.

I love 60’s music and I learned a lot of English when I was younger through songs. “Ferry Across the Mersey” was one of the first songs I learned in English. So the ferry was a must do attraction for me. The tour lasted about an hour. Leaving the waterfront with The Three Graces in the background and the song playing made me feel young again. The commentary was very informative about the River Mersey and the history of the buildings. You can get off and visit Birkenhead and the U-boat Museum –included in the price, or walk along the waterfront to New Brighton. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time. So I must return some day. The best photographs of the waterfront are from the ferry.

This museum used to be a dock warehouse and is located in the Albert Dock. It is so big it is really several museums in one. It has many exhibitions that tell the social and commercial history of the port and Liverpool people.
Highlights include models ships, maritime paintings, Titanic and Liverpool: the untold story, International Slavery Museum, The Old Dock Exhibition as well as the Border Force’s National Museum,
I am titanic crazy, so anything related to the tragedy was really interesting for me.
Museums in England are very interactive places. There was a great programme of hands on activities, demonstrations and talks. The view from the cafe is great too.

THE TATE
Great gallery with some fantastic paintings and interesting modern art (lots of fantastic sculpture and film works). It is a good spacious gallery and all of the work is well presented. If you’re a fan of more contemporary artwork it is well worth a visit and entry is free other than for special exhibitions

The main reason for me to come to Liverpool was to visit the places the Beatles used to play, live and visit. It is well themed with replicas of Mathew Street, Casbah and The Cavern. Great audio guides through “Living History” in 10 different languages. There is some world famous Beatles memorabilia here.
Kimi, Kyoto Japan
THE BEATLES, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR
If you came to Liverpool because you’re a big Beatles fan like me then The Magical Mystery tour is a must do attraction. I can’t say anymore because it’s a mystery, only that the tour guide was great and so was the bus. Our tour finished at 5pm so we walked into Mathew Street and went to the Cavern Club and Cavern Pub for too many drinks. What a great day.

CAVERN CLUB
Most tourist attractions are visited by tourist only , but in Liverpool local people enjoy them too. So you will meet many scousers and UK tourists here. It was a friendly place to talk to people, as we are all Beatles fans. It is free to enter in the afternoon and there is usually an artist playing Beatles tunes. The atmosphere rocks especially on a Thursday night when they have a Beatles tribute band on the original Cavern stage.
Isabel, Valencia Spain
CAVERN PUB
Located on Mathew Street opposite the Cavern Club. There is the Cavern Wall of Fame outside and great memorabilia on the walls inside, so go when it is quiet if you want to study the artefacts. Because when it is busy it is very busy. I saw many different bands on The Cavern Pub during my stay and it became my local bar. It is free to enter.
